ARTIST'S BIO

Michael Musyoka, born in 1986 in Nairobi, developed an early appreciation for the vibrant graffiti adorning commuter buses and local business walls in his community. This early exposure to urban art laid the foundation for his later work in figurative compositions. Musyoka honed his skills at the Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts, starting in 2009, which paved the way for his professional career in illustration, contributing to publishing companies and advertising agencies in Nairobi.

In 2013, Musyoka expanded his artistic influence by co-founding Brush Tu Art Studio, a collective in Nairobi that fosters collaboration among artists on projects such as mural painting and mentoring emerging talents. This initiative marked the beginning of his professional art practice, leading to widespread exhibitions both in Kenya and internationally.

Musyoka’s artistic prowess was recognized in 2015 when he was awarded the 2nd prize in the professional artist category of the Manjano Art Competition in Nairobi. Currently, Musyoka continues to live and work in Nairobi, contributing significantly to its art scene through his creative endeavors and community engagement.
