ARTIST'S BIO
Sebawali Sio’s artistic practice is driven by an insatiable curiosity, an ever-evolving exploration of materials, form, and meaning. Beginning with watercolor paper and canvas, Sio first worked with oil paints, layering vibrant compositions that captured movement and depth. Over time, this foundation in two-dimensional work unfolded into a deep passion for sculpture, where she embraces a vast range of materials, allowing each to guide her creative process.
In her sculptural work, Sio works with fiberglass, resin, wood, glass, plasticine, and plaster of Paris, drawn to the distinct textures and possibilities each medium offers. Her hands follow the fluid intelligence of nature, shaping pieces that invite both touch and contemplation. Water remains a central force in her practice, both as a physical element and a metaphor for motion, emotion, and transformation. She is captivated by its rhythms, its quiet strength, and its ability to carve and reshape landscapes over time.
Her work often reflects the organic pathways of slime molds, the movement of water, and the resilience of the feminine spirit, each flowing, adapting, and persisting in its own way. Through this dialogue between nature and human experience, Sio creates spaces for reflection, inviting the viewer to recognize the deep interconnection between the self and the natural world. As her practice unfolds, she continues to seek new ways of expressing these connections, expanding the language of her art to honor the fluid, transformative forces that shape both life and landscape.
